Esther Pickell Sangalang spent 19 of the 22 years she taught at the SCCOE
Special Education Program at the old East Valley Center.
In commemoration of the opening ceremony at the Anne Darling site, she wrote
this poem:
Like a Phoenix, she rose anew;
The East Valley Center I knew.
Now, new, proud and inviting;
Like a queen regally sitting.
Her walls, now sound and strong;
Her doors, windows, wide and long;
Her roof, sturdy, eco-friendly;
Her surroundings very orderly.
I miss the old; but love the new;
The spacious state-of-the-art view;
The inviting warm atmosphere
Says vigor and hope are here.
East Valley Center is reborn; enter
Anne Darling Special Education Center.
Here our DARLING students will grow;
And let precious moments flow.
