Cary Dritz Appointed
SCCOE Deputy Superintendent
SAN JOSE— Dr. Cary Dritz has been appointed to the position of deputy
superintendent of the Santa Clara County Office of Education, County
Superintendent Charles Weis announced Friday.
Since July 2005, Dr. Dritz has been associate superintendent for Student
Services in the Ventura County Office of Education, where he worked closely with
former VCOE Superintendent Weis. Dr. Weis came to the SCCOE in July.
In his new position, Dr. Dritz will directly oversee the Center for
Educational Planning department, a new charter schools support unit and
occupational programs.
Weis said that Dr. Dritz will also “help me champion preschool and career
preparation efforts throughout the county, while assisting with continuous
improvement and leadership development efforts in our SCCOE schools and other
departments.”
The deputy superintendent position is a new one at the SCCOE. Dr. Weis said
he was creating the position by combining two others that have been vacant –
assistant to the superintendent and executive director of the Center for
Educational Planning. The deputy superintendent’s salary will be $197,500.
“He requires no training, just orientation to the county,” Weis said. “Cary’s
expertise and experience are exactly what is needed here.”
Weis said Dr. Dritz led the effort to develop interim assessments and data
management in all VCOE schools. Prior to his work at the VCOE, Dritz served as
deputy superintendent in the Simi Valley district, which has 23,000 students.
He will start at the SCCOE on October 1.
