Bill of Rights Institute Seminar

San Francisco, California

October 19, 2010

The Bill of Rights Institute is pleased to invite you to apply for a FREE one-day seminar entitled An American Primer: The Founding Documents. This seminar is for social studies teachers, grades 8-12, and will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, California from 7:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided at the seminar.

As a social studies teacher, you know that teaching your students about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights can sometimes be challenging. The seminar will provide you with the academic content and practical applications you need to explain the importance of these Founding documents to your students.

At the seminar, you will receive a complimentary copy of our curriculum, Being an American: Exploring the Ideals that Unite Us, Second Edition, with lesson plans, classroom activities, and character cards for prominent American heroes, such as Thomas Edison, Frederick Douglas, William Penn, James Madison, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Participants will also receive a professional development certificate.

I hope that you will share the enclosed flyer with your fellow social studies teachers. Registrations must be completed online by October 5, 2010. You will be notified of your acceptance via email no later than October 7, 2010. To register, please click here. We look forward to receiving your registration.

Sincerely,

Gennie Westbrook
Director of Professional Development

P.S. Attending An American Primer: The Founding Documents seminar will help you meet the California History-Social Science Content Standard 12.2 which requires students to evaluate and take and defend positions on the scope and limits of rights and obligations as democratic citizens laid out in the Founding documents.

THIS SEMINAR IS MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF THE KORET FOUNDATION
